Aside from the numerous workshops and classes offered by over 20 Indigenous tribes and ethnic minorities attending Tribal Gathering, every year a big part of the educational program is provided by attendees willing to share their knowledge and skills with the tribal gathering community. Each day millions of tons of trash washes up on beaches
The beaches at Tribal Gathering are much the same with trash washing ashore each day. We clean them regularly. But what to do with all that never ending supply of trash? We have set up various upcycling programs with the plan to utilise the rubbish for the event build.
Here’s a couple of them
PLASTIC PARADISO
A project to create art from washed up plastic that is used in campaigns to make those companies responsible help clean the seas their plastic is poluting.
PRECIOUS PLASTIC
We collect the HDPE plastic. Essentially all the plastic bottle tops, wash them, chip them and re-injection mold the melted chippings into various objects to be used during Tribal Gathering.
UP-CYCLING & RECYCLING
1. Old flip-flops are upcycled into hinges for event doors and gates.
2. Ropes reused and bottles and tin cans are turned into lighting fixtures.
3. Fishing nets washed ashore are used in different festival structures and art installations.
4. The material of broken camping tents is used to weave colorful floor rugs to use for our event guests accommodations the following year.
5. The mosquito nets of damaged camping tents are adapted into doors and windows to keep our event and headquarters sheds free of bugs.
6. The floors of damaged camping tents are used as tarps for different purposes.
7. We turn unusable inflatable mattresses into bin bags and poufs for our lounging areas, filling them with discarded styro-foam and shreds of old latex mattresses.
8. After we have up-cycled as much as we can, we grind down most of the rest and use it as aggregate to make paving slabs that we line the floors of our kitchen with.
The idea is to recycle everything directly into the events infrastructure rather than send it off to some recycling centre to be shipped off to some hole in the middle of a forest in Malaysia.
CHILDREN
Tribal Gathering is a kid friendly event: natural and safe environment with many activities in the eco-cultural program suitable for the little ones, specially the arts, crafts and hands-on workshops. A truly magical place where they can experience many different cultures sharing with one another in a symbiotic way. The festival provides a profound sense of respect and harmony between cultures of the Earth which we believe is crucial for our future.
Tribal Gathering does not offer childcare services or babysitting. Parents are at all times responsible for their kids. We encourage parents to self organize and be pro-active to make the children's area an interesting space. There are also plenty of fun activities in Panama for families to partake before and after Tribal Gathering... All in all, this is an opportunity like no other to enjoy a family holiday together!
Children who are 14 years old or younger can come for free accompanied by an adult. Tribal Gathering will provide an amount of free meals and drinks credits for kids 5 years old and under. Come to the info desk to get yours!
